A client of mine moved his wordpress site from his servers to ours. But there were several errors that came with the migration:
- No files could be uploaded
- No thumbnails could be seen on the media menu
- Neither folders
- And sometimes the site broke blank
These are the steps we took to fix that:
- Checked the primary keys on the tables: _post and _postmeta .
- The migration didn't copy the primary keys and I had to create a whole new table _post2019 with the primary keys (not null, autoincrement)
- copy everything from _post to _post2019 and rename _post to _postold
- and then rename _post2019 to _post
This solved the database issues. Permissions weren't a problem this time but I also checked everything was writeable as 755 for folders and 644 for files
Now back to Wordpress,
- Checked in options if it had a faulty upload_path. I left it blank so it could take the default value.
- I went to the tools section and the fix media library. It gave me so many errors the first time with 550 files that I had to go to the options button on this tool
- At the options section of th fix media library tool, I set this up as:
Unreferenced Thumbnails: don't analyze
Broken attahments: delete
Duplicate attachments: delete (not 'delete even if attached to different')
Post GUID: update if there is a mismatch
Unreferenced images: don't analyze
Logging to: wp-content/uploads/media-library.log
Verbose logging: checked
I opened the log file with SSH and checked for errors. Even if the first runs gave me errors, I finally made it to fix all thumbnails and image references and all thumbnails showed up and files could be uploaded.
Surveymonkey, plays a dirty game.
Once you think you trust them and like their product, you have no chance to really test the product other than applying to a 35$ monthly plan because all the others are annual based.
Once you pay the first dollar, there's no refund policy. Even when 99% of the online stores offers some kind of refund policy, Surveymonkey simply says that you should have read their terms and conditions to steal your money.
PLEASE don't use them. There are other options like google forms, typeform, riddle. give them a look before banging your head against the wall because these people are stealing your money.
UPDATE: Thank God I used Paypal for this. Even if they don't offer a refund and if you paid via Paypal, go directly to claims and place a claim. They will have some days to reply but in the end, Paypal will grant you the refund. Surveymonkey isn't making ethical business.
Dirty Business, Surveymonkey
Ha! On this same page we had an issue that prevented of from using Yootheme PRO's builder on our own pages.
Solution: I found out that one of my cache engine was minifying and grouping JS and CSS. Removed it and it's fixed.
A client's website started showing this like a week ago or a little bit more.
I tried disabling plugins, components, etc. Nothing worked until I figured out that it happened only to logged in users who were working on the site and also trying to see frontpage.
On my Joomla config, I changed the settings to PHP, reduced the cache time to 5min and set the Shared sessions to off.
So far, I haven't had any issue with it but I'm still monitoring it.
I dropped the shs404sef component, installed Speedcache from Joomunited and used the core SEF. Site speed improved a lot, less crashes.
Update june 14th, 2018: After trying JoomUnited's speedcache, Varnish, sh404sef, JCH Optimize... we came into a conclussion that LiteSpeed Cache is the BEST cache provider. Of course that you need to be hosted on a server with LTS installed instead of Apache, Nginx, IIS. We offer LTS to all our clients as well as LTS cache.
Comparission between Varnish and LTS? Wow... Varnish is the closest contender to LTS but still a 2nd place with a huge gap in front of it. Not only the configuration of the default.vcl is a pain in the butt, but the hated Guru errors that showed up to clients harming your ranking, traffic and reputation.
Litespeed cache is now available for Joomla!: First of all, make sure you have it on your hosting (hey, we offer it b default to all our clients!) and it's configuration is super fast. We've been trying the ESI modules on some of our clients and on this page too and the loading time drops almost by half.
Joomla, sh404sef, Speedcache
This was a bad move. I bought the phpDesigner8 attracted by price but didn't read it all because of the rush. The software's last version was on 2013 although they still sell you licenses as if there were going to be updates. I spent several hours dealing with broken UTF-8 until I found out the the Mysql collantion was fine, php charset was fine, everything was correct except... you guessed it: phpDesigner8 which was set on ANSI. Had to change all my files to UTF-8 and it worked
