memcached dead but pid file exists

Case:
memcached starts but it stops immediately.

When running status, it saysmemcached dead but pid file exists and when running ps aux | grep memcached you can't see the pid file to kill it.

Solution:
On CentOS you can go to /etc/sysconfig/memcached and check your configuration. In my case I had a redundant directive at the OPTIONS line where I was redeclaring the port.  This is my memcached config file now.

PORT="11211"
PORT="11211"
USER="memcached"
MAXCONN="1000"
CACHESIZE="8192"
OPTIONS="-l localhost"

memcached
